Peter A. Bender is the former executive director of the Pegasus Foundation, a private independent foundation that funds nonprofit groups in animal protection, environmental preservation, and public education. He left the foundation in 2009. He also was the manager of the Caring Fields Animal Sanctuary, an affiliate of the Pegasus Foundation in Palm City, Fla., until 2009.
Bender sits on HSUS's Board of Directors. He also serves on the boards of HSUS’s “Humane USA” PAC, the Humane Society Wildlife Land Trust, the International Center for Earth Concerns, and the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries.
In 2007, he was elected president of Animal Grantmakers, an affinity group of foundations that gives money to animal-rights groups.
