Call for Experts
We're building a rolodex of experts on all sorts of animal issues, including the list below. If you are particularly well-versed in one of these areas, or you know someone who is, we'd appreciate it if you'd reach out to us at info@humanewatch.org.
We freely admit that we'd welcome your help. We've been studying "animal politics" for nine years, but we assume there are real specialists out there who can help make this site smarter.
In no particular order ...
- Pet shelter euthanasia rates
- Dog shows and breeding standards
- The history of pet stores in America
- Pet food formulation
- Marine mammal training
- Equine issues
- Animal welfare in biomedical research
- Fur trapping
- Sealing
- Animals in zoos and aquariums
- Egg production standards
- Dairy cow well-being
- Classroom dissection
- Hunting conservation programs
- Fishing competitions
- Predator control programs
- CITES and Endangered Species Act claims
- Wayne Pacelle's first marriage
Okay, we threw that last one in there because we're a little sleep-deprived. Strike that.
But if you have expert contacts, primary resources, or key documents to share, please send 'em over.

David, I can help with dog shows and breeding standards. I don’t know everything by any stretch, but I have the contacts to find out what we need to know. Call or write any time. You have my card from the Animal Ag Alliance meeting last summer.I’m with the Virginia Federation of Dog Clubs and Breeders,
I’m no expert, but I lived in Virginia during the SB260 battle and can vouch for Sharyn and her husband being great crusaders for the voice of common sense.
David,
Would love to be of help to you—I don’t know everything but my husband and I have been breeding and exhibiting poodles since 1986. I’m a certified professional dog trainer and Corresponding Secretary of Massachusetts Federation of Dog Clubs & Responsible Dog Owners.
Could you please add a section for animal owner lawyers/experts on representing owners in civil seizures and defending criminal charges?
I also claim to not be an authority on these issues. But as a person with common sense and who loves animals - I can say with a certainty that trapping animals is cruel, inhumane, and very painful. We are animals - Ken how would you like to be trapped? I bet not. I believe that God put animals on earth for us to eat and also for companionship. As a farmer if you have treated your animals humanely (i.e. allowing them access to outdoors and feeding them what their bodies were designed eat - grass not soy, hormones, antibiotics, and corn) then I do not have a problem. By the way we are not designed to eat those things either. I have no problem with hunting - that is the only way that we can get certain kind of meats. My thing is: While these animals are alive we should be treating them decently. I do not believe in treating other species of animals better than our species but I do have compassion for other living things. Unfortunately most people do not think that way.
David,
I’ve been involved in the equine industry my entire life and have a degree in Equine Management. I’m familiar with most industry issues and have research contacts if you ever have questions.
I also worked for two county Humane Society shelters while in college but have been VERY concerned with HSUS’s direction in the last decade. Thank You for starting this site!!!
Animal agriculture needs experts, and needs people who are willing to speak up on issues. I am working on my Ph.D. in animal science with a specialty in animal welfare. I am also a federally registered lobbyist. If I can help on egg industry issues, I would be happy to assist.
In response to your call for help on the dairy cow well-being issue, we have an individual that works for us that would be a great help in answering your questions. He is a Cornell graduate and comes from a long family line of dairy producers. His wife also graduated from Cornell with a family dairy background. She happens to be a big wig at one of the largest producers and marketers of dairy cow hormones in the world.. contact me if you want further info.
Not listed is mandatory spay/neuter.
You may want to get in touch with Laura at http://saveourdogs.net/ about that.
I have extensive experience in the equine industry and will send you my resume if you would like it. Please keep up the good work!
Having been in Animal Science academia for 20 years and industry for 5 years, I can offer insight and ‘key’ contact information for a variety of animal-related issues.
I have a PhD in Poultry Nutrition, and have been in the industry for 11 years, working with large Poultry and Swine integrators. In addition to my own experience, I have many contacts in the industry and academia for all species of animal science specializing in management, nutrition, veterinary medicine, etc. I would be happy to offer any assistance.
I am so happy to see what you are doing here!! Thank you for all your hard work!!
Hi there. I can be of some help in the area of fur trapping. I’m a long time trapper and active in national and state trapping associations. While maybe not an “expert” by some standards, I’ve come to know quite a bit about trapping methods, ethics, laws, etc.

hello,
I dont know that I am an expert on anything, but i am an educator, i work for edmonson county school districts, i administrate an alternative school in the district. I have a social studies major, a teaching degree, and an administrative masters degree. I have farmed, hunted, fished, trapped and been a gamefowl enthusiest all of my life and if there is anything that I can do to help your cause I would love to help. The animal rights people threaten my very existence as far as my hobby life goes. They put the welfare of animals above humans and dont recognize the difference between neglect and animals performing their jobs. They use 2 second shots to portray the lifes of animals, these 2 second shots are just lies the way they use them. These people think that they can break the law for their cause and act like spoiled brats when they dont get their way. The really sad part is there is a lot of neglect that they could be helpful with that gets shoved aside so they can pursue what they think are more glorious campaignes.
thanks
ken
