Daybreak USA with Dr. Jim

A major tip of the hat to Dr. Jim Humphries of the Veterinary News Network and Pet Docs On Call. Appearing on the USA Radio Network's "Daybreak USA" program, Dr. Jim is spreading the word about what the Humane Society of the United States is--and what it isn't.

Less than a half of a percent of their $100 million of donations goes to help pets in shelters--dogs and cats.

[The money goes] into the pension plans of these executives, into big fat salaries, and into other grants to fund other studies to fund more infomercials to fund more celebrities to raise more money.

And that's what happens with these organizations. They get into money-raising mode and they never get out. And they use the sadness and the tragedy of poor treatment of animals to raise money, and then the money stays there and never goes to help the animals. And they're drawing a lot of fire now ...

You know the infomercials. You've seen the sad dog faces in the cages, and you've seen the celebrities asking you for $19 a month, right? That's $228 a year you'll spend. Sending that to HSUS, one dollar and three cents goes to help shelters. And that's said. It's criminal. And you know what? They should be exposed. They need to find their way again.

We couldn't have said it better ourselves. There's lots more. It's worth a listen.

The % that goes to animals in shelters is not acceptable, If they want to get a living off animals in need, they need to get no more than 15% of all money collected. This is so wrong. The money I just sent today IS THE LAST I WILL E V E R send to HSUS.  I DO NOT give to PETA at all.  I WILL NOW ONLY GIVE TO LOCAL SHELTERS. I WILL GIVE TIME AND FOOD.

But ... helping the animals is not their purpose! Sure, they say that’s their purpose, to get you to give money, but that’s not their purpose at all!

HSUS is a vegan animal rights organization, and is not in any way friendly to animals. The vegan goal is to eliminate all animal products and animals from human lives. All ... food, clothing, companionship, exhibition, working animals. All.

So the problem isn’t that they aren’t giving money to help animals, the problem is they are lying about why they want your money!

But, Lynn, if they told the truth, their donations would drop to about $328.52 a year. Do you HONESTLY think old Wacky Wayne could maintian his cushy corporate lifestyle on donations of $328.52 a year? Of COURSE he couldn’t!

Come ON… Where’s the LOVE!??!! O_O

@ BADKarma - Yes, wouldn’t that be WONDERFUL!

But this vet is missing the point. They ARE now a committed AR organization, and they shouldn’t be allowed to influence any animal issues at all.

The fact is that they are not merely generating money to generate money, they are using the money to push for legislation which is destroying our rights to own animals, or use them in any way whatever!

This really is a different matter. Bad enough if it was just a matter of ‘not using the money to help animals’, the fact is that they are using it to destroy animals!

Sure, they are a money mahine, like so many of the non profits. But the ARE using the money for animal issues - not to support them, but to eliminate them!

I realize that a lot of people can’t get their brains around that. The kindest thing you can say about it is that it really is totally ludicrous. But IT’S TIME TO STOP LAUGHING. They are winning, because the vast majority of people can simply not conceive of a life without animals, even if it is only to eat meat, dairy and eggs; if they can’t grasp it soon, we will have no animals at all.

So very sad..it was very informative, I didn’t realize this abuse of funds was going on. I am a vegetarian by choice for health reason etc…but one has a right to chose their personal diet. I am against all abuse and neglect to any animal and that includes taking care, food and shelter away from those who are in need by greedy executives. My money will now go to local agency’s and the SPCA.

@ Judy - That’s kind of where the rest of us are coming from.

They shoot hundreds of hours of videos to produce 5 minute clips of ‘abuse’. A real abuse case is a gift to them, which they exploit to the fullest extent of their, and the media’s ability. They collect millions and spend the money legislating against animal ownership. All the legislation for the last umpteen years has focused on limiting animal ownership and crippling agriculture.

All in one fell swoop they limit the amount of money that goes to the animals, because they are getting it, and they are getting the animal loving to finance their ‘animal free life’ agenda!

These animal protection agencies are NOT ‘protective’ of animals, nor even benign. They are toxic.

@ BadKarma - You think they’d get that much ..?

Well, maybe .. a lot of people haven’t figured it out yet.

The LOVE ... yeah, that. I’ll reserve mine for my family, and the animals, thanks!

We appreciate your information on the Humane Society.  How about the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.  I know that they have been around for well over a century. Are they legitimate?

ASPCA is following HSUS’ lead. Whether or not they are preaching the vegan gospel I don’t know, but for the rest - no difference.

ASPCA has one (1) shelter in NYC. Their ‘rescues’ are dumped on local kill shelters in confiscations in which they are involved. A local problem; you know how it is.
