Dealing with the “Humaniacs,” in Ten Easy Lessons

I gave a speech last week at the annual convention of the Western United Dairymen, and I understand it has generated some buzz. I titled the talk "Dealing with the 'Humaniacs': Why It Matters and What You Can Do."

A couple of farming publications have already adapted the presentation into a "top ten"-style article, and I think that's great. I was working on the Powerpoint file last week, and what I wanted to tell the hundreds of dairymen at the meeting just happened to neatly fall into a list of ten things. In retrospect, I hope it ends up printed on a BBQ apron or a wallet card, or something.

When I arrived in Modesto, California, the meeting's organizers asked me if they could videotape my speech. And I figured, what the heck? Chances are HSUS had someone planted in the audience anyway with a double-secret buttonhole camera. And it's not like I was saying anything that I wouldn't want turning up on CNN (which is a good measuring stick for public speaking, by the way).

Today I learned that the whole thing had been uploaded to YouTube. It's about 45 minutes long, and it's organized into five video segments. So if you wanted to hear little ol' me last week and you couldn't make it to the Central California Valley, make some popcorn and pull up a chair.

Thank you so much for allowing this speech to be viewed by us all.  We are all working so hard against HSUS but sometimes it just seems like we are going nowhere.  The recent successes with Yellow Tail Wines, Pilot Gas, and Mary Kay did lift the spirits and give us hope that we are going in the right direction.  Now, if we could just get the general public to understand the actual agenda for HSUS and like groups, we might be able to turn off more of the money that pours into their coffers.  Thanks again for your fight.

Thank you thank you thank you!!! As a livestock producer and Ag teacher I put my heart and sole into Agriculture every day. A large part of my job as a teacher is to educate my high school students about where their food comes from. We have a large discussion every year in class about the animal welfare vs animal rights movement. I will show this speech to my classes because you do such great job of explaing the real goals behind the Humaniacs! My students and I thank you for being the voice of Animal Agriculture and going to bat for us everyday!!!!!!

Thank you for helping find the ammunition to expose HSUS - a"wolf in sheep’s clothing”. Our farmers need to step up and tell their story…. and just as importantly we need to expose HSUS for who and what they are… and what they are not!

Thank you for this website.  We have been combating the negative press for so many years and we fight the fight every day.

Our store spends Thousands of dollars a year just to verify that we are not getting animals for animal mills and that they have proper veterinary care before, during, and after their stay with us and the lies that HSUS propagates is just sickening.  Please tell us how we can get more involved.

From some of your references in the videos, I get the idea that your politics leans to the right.  More power to you—because the wing-nuttery exists on both extremes of the political “spectrum.”  My suspicions about Peta, HSUS, et al. were rather vague, having been only recently exposed to Peta’s hypocrisy.  Thank you for laying it all out there.  I just think how many mouths could be fed or how many strays could be sterilized with that 2.5 all that money going into their pensions.  The commercial pimping the mistreated cats and dogs has brought tears to my eyes in the past.  I have a couple hundred Facebook contacts to share my indignation with.

Want to know why HSUS really ‘donated’ $10K to the Guido Foundation?  Check this out: http://tinyurl.com/ya5jvlk.

Thanks for the explanation of why the Italian American foundation received $10,000 from ole Wayne…................

Thanks for the link, Eden.  I would have “tossed up my accounts” if it wasn’t such a terrible waste of the grass-fed beef I had for dinner.

What a load of crap…comparing himself to St. Francis of Assis.  It is pretty bad when you have to “buy” your honors.

I’m going to be doing my persuasive speech for my communications class about the truths of PETA and the HSUS, and if I get my speech composed within the next 10 days I’ll even be performing it for a contest. It was really wonderful hearing your speech there, and gave me some good encouragement. I only hope that I can be as good of a voice and inform the people well enough! (and, without a doubt, this site will be one of my main sources, haha)

HumaneWatch, it would be nice if you could post the ten points (at least the summaries) in text. A lot of people aren’t going to want to take 45 minutes to watch the video.
