Enriching Women’s Lives (Not HSUS’s Bottom Line)
Kudos to everyone who spoke to Mary Kay cosmetics yesterday. In the time it took us to get from Washington, DC to San Francisco yesterday, the roster of corporate sponsors for HSUS's upcoming Dallas fundraiser got one (pink) name shorter.
You can't make this stuff up.

Stay with us, though. There's more after the jump.
And here's a message that the Mary Kay company issued yesterday afternoon on its Facebook wall (emphasis in the original):
MARY KAY: Humane Society Concerns
Some fans of Mary Kay® products and independent beauty consultants have expressed concerns over a recent sponsorship of a Dallas-area event. Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. We have heard you and want to clarify any confusion.
First and foremost, Mary Kay is not a sponsor of this event. Mary Kay’s owner’s wife was approached to make a personal contribution towards a local event here in Dallas sponsored by the Dallas chapter of the Humane Society. This event specifically supports efforts to stop puppy mills and the organization’s stop puppy mills campaign. Out of caring and compassion for addressing puppy mills, our owner’s wife agreed to make a personal contribution. Mary Kay has contacted the Humane Society to clarify that we are not sponsors of this event and the company logo is being removed from the website.
As a company, we sincerely apologize for any confusion or causing any offense to members of the Mary Kay community.
It's great that the company has set the record straight. Score one for the good guys.
But one thing bugs us about its statement. The company is saying that Nancy Rogers (whose mother-in-law was company founder Mary Kay Ash) intended to make a contribution to "the Dallas chapter of the Humane Society." You know what happens when you Google that phrase?
This:
We can't find any indication online that there is such a thing as an HSUS "Dallas chapter." There is, however, a no-kill pet shelter called the Humane Society of Dallas County.
If a mega-wealthy philanthropist can't sort out the various "humane societies" from one another, how is the average American supposed to figure it out?

You should have spoken to Mary Kay directly before you posted. It’s irresponsible to post something without checking it out the whole story. I’m no fan of HSUS, but I’m also no fan of bloggers who don’t make the effort to check out the facts.
do we have a link for WP Catering?
Back when I used to plan large special events, we’d often list a company providing a necessary service or product as an “in-kind” sponsor and give them credit in all printed materials. This may be the case here. Yet it is clear to me HSUS enjoys riding on the excellent reputation of the companies they claim are affiliated with them, and borrowing their good names to perpetuate their ongoing acts of public deception.
Hopefully, it isn’t too late for these companies to wake up and assist the local shelter effort instead, to be sure their money goes were it can do the most good- animals in immediate need, no vegans on a liar’s mission.
I am trying to figure out why Cafe Pacific Dallas is on the list of sponsors. It is clear on their website that they serve seafood and steaks. Is it another assumption.
The Humane Society of Dallas County does not appear to have direct connections to HSUS; however, they do refer people to the SPCA of Texas which has close ties to PETA (and likely ties to HSUS too). SPCA of Texas is actively involved in and often the instigator of enormous seizures like the U.S. Global Exotics seizure and the Kearney livestock seizure (in which the majority of animals were ordered returned but that didn’t keep them from bad mouthing the owner).

Doesn’t make much difference to me if Mary Kay gave the money directly or if it came from Mary Kay through one of its owners or relative of an owner. So tired of “move the money around for plausible deniability”!
Here is the link to contact Wolfgang Puck about their participation:

True puppy mills are horrible. No animal, pet or livestock, should be treated that way. Having said that I do not nor ever will support HSUS. They parade around in a mask of good deeds while truthfully all they care about is shutting down agriculture. My question to HSUS: when our agriculture industry is gone who will get our meat from? China? Great, low quality, high disease rate, high mortality rates, huge shipping costs, and I can guarantee you china will simply laugh when HSUS tries implementing their so-called ‘humane’ animal laws. Ever seen a group of sows in a pen together? They fight constantly, biting shoulders, chewing on vulva’s, stepping on udders, but HSUS has deemed it inhumane to keep them in a separate stall where they don’t get picked on and workers can provide individual attention. They also seem to think letting chickens roam free outside, exposed to elements and predators, is better than a nice cozy cage. All I can say is do your homework, and talk to the people who actually spend time with livestock on a day to day basis
I saw the article about May Kay being one of the sponsors for this “shindig” on this web site. I would not have known about it if it had not been posted here. I sent the article to a senior manager, in Dallas, at Mary Kay who was not aware of this situation until inundated w/ emails and that is why they “corrected” the situation.
Thank you for keeping the public aware of HSUS “antics”.
Alex, you hit on the very essence of good farming management. I’ve watched sows lay down on almost entire litters without noticing. Dairy cows must be managed for sanitary reasons and production. My uncle used to laugh when he said people called cows stupid. HE was the one putting in the 18 hour day 7 days a week, no vacation, no sleeping in so that the cows had everything they needed to stay healthy and productive.
I was just wondering if anyone has a Mary Kay Business and how is it working out for you?
interesting, bookmarked and linked

What is Wolfgang Puck doing in that list?
Do they seriously think only wacky vegans buy their cookware?
