Focus-Grouping Those HSUS Mini-Infomercials

Fox News Channel host Greta Van Susteren polled her audience online last night about the Humane Society of the United States's TV ads. The mini-infomercials, if you’re not familiar with them, generally feature CEO Wayne Pacelle or celebrity endorser Wendie Malick asking for $19 a month—while sad music plays and tear-jerking images of dogs and cats roll in the background.

Greta is interested in learning whether or not you like the ads, and whether they make you want to donate to HSUS. At the moment of this writing, 1,210 people have voted. We think we can help pump up those numbers, don't you?

The voting is already a bit lopsided. (We won't tell you in which direction, lest anyone say we're tainting the focus group.) But we wonder whether the result would be different if Greta told her audience that a $19-per-month donation translates into less than $1.15 for hands-on pet shelters during the course of an entire year.

And did we mention that this poll welcomes comments as well as your votes?

Using sad pictures, sad music will pull on heart strings \7 get more to donate thinking they are helping the animsld - it used to with me. But once they find out how little goes to these causes they will stop donating - just like me—its disgusting !!!!

We are beef producers.  We make our living off our livestock, and the land, and we care very much about our animals and the land.  If we don’t, producers, like us, know we will not be in business long.  Our family works hard every day to make sure the needs are met with the feeding and caring of our stock, through all kinds of weather conditions.  People like my family do not appreciate how the HSUS presents us.  We watch FOX each night, and it makes us sick to see these commercials on the air, especially when we have put in the normal 16 to 18 hours per day, 7 days a week, to care for the animals and the land.  No holidays or weekends here!

The HSUS is by far the BIGGEST LIAR when it comes to donations and their caring for animals.  The average person/pet owner has NO IDEA what these people are capable of doing.  They care nothing about animals—they care about collecting monies for their ridiculous lobbying efforts to stop EVERYONE from owning animals across the country—THIS IS THEIR ULTIMATE GOAL!  They want to stop hunting, dog training, dog ownership as well as stop farmers from owning livestock of ANY kind.  This info needs to be put out publicly on TV channels so that people fully understand EXACTLY how unscrupulous this group TRULY is!!!  All those ads you see of sad and abused animals, dogs mostly is nothing more than a ruse to reach into people’s pockets for money…..they really need to know the truth about the HSUS.

HSUS’s primary goal is to play with people’s emotions to generate money so that management can increase their bank accounts.  They are doing very little to care for abused and abandoned animals.  The ads being shown are offensive and instead of being used to raise money for an unworthy group, they should be used to provide funding to the local SPCA’s that actually care for abused animal.
