Hill’s Science Diet Update
Just an update to today's hubbub over pet food.

The Care2 folks aren't big on spelling ("made possibly by ..."), but I guess that's what happens when you're in a hurry to cover your tracks.
It certainly looks like someone at Hill's Pet Nutrition asked Care2 to nuke their public support for the Humane Society of the United States. But one reader has sent us evidence that Care2's main HSUS click-to-give page was still sporting a Science Diet logo just a few hours ago.
It's troubling that the Care2 page raising money for HSUS is still up at all, but we suppose that without a "sponsor," it will go the way of the dodo soon enough. Let's keep an eye on this, though.
If you've received anything official from Hill's suggesting that its financial contributions to HSUS are dead and gone, please let me know.

The link posted by Nancy seems to show Science Diet PARTNERING with HSUS to support LOCAL SHELTERS by giving them money and free food. Isn’t this the kind of thing that you want to see MORE off—HSUS actually helping LOCAL shelters? I thought one of the big beefs with HSUS is that they don’t do enough for local shelters but then you knock them and Science Diet for one of the small things that HSUS actually did for local shelters.
I still don’t trust HSUS and would never give them money, but I would think that in addition to insisting on better transparency from HSUS that at least some of HumaneWatch followers would want to see HSUS greatly EXPANDING this kind of support of local shelters—or is this like everything else seems to be in America: a polarized, right or wrong**, black or white problem?
It seems to me that HumaneWatch is making one their primary growth mechanisms an effort to be reaching out to get the general public enraged about the disconnect between HSUS and local shelters. I’m curious about the goals of HumaneWatch—is it to force more transparency at HSUS? Force clearer, less confusing $19/month fundraising commercials? Force HSUS to have a greater connection to local shelters financially and through other resources & expertise? Or is it to try to put HSUS “out of business” by painting them as an evil empire?
**I realize that SOME HumaneWatch followers ARE 100% anti-HSUS for their many intrusive anti-farming, anti-breeder, anti-hunting lobbying efforts and there are those who believe that HSUS is tryign to make pets and other domesticated animals “extinct.”
I emailed Hill’s from their website and pointed out to them they were fools for supporting a group that wants to see their demise.
I don’t understand why so many of these dog food folks don’t understand that supporting these extremist groups like H$U$ will be an end to their business
If there are no more breeders eventually there will be no more dogs and then no need for dog food
Is the concern here that Hills is not providing funds, or that HSUS should not accept funds from Hills? I guess it seems like ultimately any funding for shelters is a good thing?
What’s the stance on supporting local rescue organizations?
