HSUS Supports Cockfighters?

We couldn't make this up if we tried. Our minds are nowhere near this twisted.

A reader tipped us off that the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is currently advertising on gamerooster.com, which is a website that seeks to unite "gamefowl breeders for the love of the sport and the breed." The "sport" they are referring to is the detestable practice of cockfighting.

Wayne Pacelle, HSUS's CEO, regularly lies that HumaneWatch is funded by and supports cockfighters. That's a lie, and Pacelle was put on legal notice of it in 2010.

You know what isn't a lie? HSUS is supporting cockfighters by advertising on their websites. (Click the image enlarge.)

By the way, you might be wondering what HSUS’s banner ad links to. We clicked on it, and it goes to an HSUS donation page.

In other words, HSUS is apparently all too happy to take money from cockfighting supporters. So, Wayne Pacelle, how much money has HSUS made from this ad?

Okay, okay—this is mostly tongue-in-cheek and probably an unintentional oversight that HSUS’s online advertising team is quickly correcting (as soon as they read this post!). We have no idea what HSUS is targeting with its ads, but we were able to independently verify the ads. If you can't see the ads, it could be because they aren't targeting your demographic or geographic location (or a variety of other ways Google allows advertisers target their ads).

Here are a few more examples from "gamefowl" or "cocker" websites around the web:

wow.

just WOW.

not like I ever would have come across this any other way than HW- I certainly wouldn’t be visiting those types of sites on my own.

HSUS’s game plans seems to be that as long as they can make money off animal abuse, it’s perfectly fine to get involved (think Michael Vick).

just when I thought Wayne couldn’t stoop any lower. but why am I surprised?

As much as I dislike HSUS, I agree that this HAS to be an oversight. What actually made me gape most about this was the screenshot of that first site stating their aim to popularize “cocking”—as if you could EVER call the practice of raising animals to fight one another for sport “high class.”

HSUS helps out very few animal shelters. They take in lots of money but very little goes out except in the administrations pockets. The pay the higher ups get is outrageous!!! Especially for a do nothing organization! If you don’t believe me do your own research.

I went to the actual website and refreshed several times and saw many popular ads that I see everywhere (including HSUS’s ad). Looking at the source code for the page I found this (http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js). The ads are not directly affiliated with the website at all. The owners of the site got all the ads from Google.

I like you guys here at Humane Watch, but PLEASE do a bit more research into these things before spreading them.

I beg to differ, Susan. This is not an oversight. Bear in mind that less than a year ago, Wacky Wayne himself said that Michael Vick “would make an excellent dog owner” shortly after the H$U$ received a $50,000 “num-num” from the Philadelphia Eagles.

The H$U$ goes where the money is. Period. That is all they care about. (Oh, yeah, and legislating all human/animal contact out of existence, of course).

Is there no end EVER to this man’s duplicity? Him and his organization is a more than over the top example of what is wrong in this country. I’ve just recently bacome aware of the growing popularity of chickens for pets and home egg production. A newish magazine called, “Mary Jane’s Farm” is one place I’m seeing it a lot. My own daughter-in-law has pet chickens. So, now I suppose he will be putting chicks in distress on TV as a money funnel for his greed. The last place in the world my DIL aka Chicken Lady on the net, would never see the ads on the cockfighting sites as most of us wouldn’t yet there he is, at it again. He really cares nothing for any animal but has found a lucritive hook to line his pockets and he won’t stop on his own. Hopefully his greed will be his undoing thanks to HumaneWatch.

So what your saying is by running ads on gamefowl websites there promoting cockfighting? I don’t get it? Please explain that to me! There promoting there agenda to an audience of people that raise and care for animals. Thats It! Whats so wrong with that?

I think Mike Vick would make an okay dog owner.  He would be under so much scrutiny he would pretty much have to take good care of it.  People would flip out if anything happened to his dog.  He wouldn’t be able to just tie it up in his yard and ignore it like thousands of other dog owners do.

I don’t think having a history of killing an animal means you would be incapable of caring for one as a pet.

I’ve killed countless cute widdle bunnies because I find them tasty, but I’m sure I could care for a pet rabbit if I ever felt the need to get one.

Normally I would click on the add since its a pay per click, but i have something against enabling cockfighters even if it is with HSUS’s $

What strikes me is that after many, many years of calling for the destruction of ALL seized American pit bulls, they suddenly discovered there is BIG money in saving them. Like the cool almost a million that went to Bad Rap and Best Friends for sticking shy, terrified dogs in 10 x 20 kennels the rest of their lives (BF). Anyone who knows and loves pit bulls like I do know they need HARD exercise and a HOME. Not perpetual boarding and no-pull harnesses and painted toe nails. The sad thing is, they are now using a bust dog to act like suddenly they have compassion - and of course, NEED YOUR MONEY!
