Wayne Pacelle Has Officially Gone ‘Round the Bend
Wayne Pacelle, the CEO of the Humane Society of the United States, is someone with whom we seldom agree on matters of substance. And since he’s a devotee of the quasi-religious belief system that calls itself “animal rights,” disagreeing with Pacelle puts us in good company. Very few Americans subscribe to Pacelle’s philosophical view that animals deserve “rights,” at least in the way we all understand that people should have rights.
For most of us, learning the value of defending our neighbors' unalienable rights is a sign of growth and enlightenment. But for Pacelle, human rights matter no more than those of cows, pigs, chickens, and of every other species on the planet.
In several years of watching Pacelle’s comings and goings, however, we’ve learned that he’s not entirely consistent. For the right reason, his moral compass goes all wobbly. When HSUS needs to raise money, or when Pacelle pragmatically wants to avoid alienating his base with radical animal "rights" talk, he's quick to brand himself and his organization as seekers of animal “welfare” or animal “protection.” Words matter, of course, and those particular words are expedient means to an end.
But yesterday Pacelle did something entirely new. In a stunning gaffe worthy of Dan Quayle or Joe Biden, he opened his mouth and bent his principles in a way that will inevitably cost him considerable prestige. It may also cost HSUS whatever rock-solid bona fides it has as a well-meaning animal protection organization.
Speaking to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Wayne Pacelle said the following about Michael Vick, the disgraced NFL quarterback whose stat sheet includes animal-fighting convictions related to the gruesome deaths of eight dogs:
I have been around him a lot, and feel confident that he would do a good job as a pet owner.
Honestly, we’re stunned. Aghast. Angry. (Almost) speechless.
It turns out that this wasn’t just a momentary, regrettable lapse on Pacelle’s part. Last night HSUS issued a statement to WTKR-TV3 in Norfolk, Virginia, saying:
Vick could eventually be a good pet owner, and with such a spotlight on him, he'll have a great incentive in taking proper care of a dog.
Let’s put this in perspective: Would Bernard Madoff do a good job today as a mutual-fund manager? Might Wesley Snipes be a fine income-tax preparer if he were subjected to sufficient scrutiny? Could Congressman Charles Rangel become a credible ethics adviser to politicians? Or, more to the point (since Pacelle is in the business of equating humans with animals), could anyone ever make a convincing case that John Wayne Gacy, a serial rapist and killer of teenage boys, should have been allowed to serve as a Boy Scout troop leader because he had a good incentive to excel?
Put another way: Would anyone who suggested any of these human reclamation projects with a straight face be treated as something other than perverse and unstable?
The Philadelphia Eagles football team has paid HSUS $50,000 (that we know of) for its efforts to rehabilitate Michael Vick’s public image. He’s clearly a talented athlete, and his recent performance on the field has tilted the “should he be allowed to play?” debate decidedly in his favor. But killing eight dogs (that we know of) as the ringleader of a brutal form of “entertainment” that HSUS rightly condemns was an off-the-field failing which no animal “protection” group should ever forgive, much less forget.
It’s been our belief from the get-go that Wayne Pacelle’s public embrace of one of history’s cruelest animal abusers was neither good for animals nor for Vick. And taking the defense of this thug a giant step further will also, over time, prove disastrous for both Pacelle and HSUS.
By one measure, dog fighting activity has increased three-fold in Philadelphia since Vick moved there. (The Pennsylvania SPCA says that since Vick arrived, dog fighting “is a fad out here now.”) And just last week Vick himself admitted that if it weren’t for his animal-fighting arrest and conviction, “Honestly … Yeah, I’d probably still be doing it.”
Reasonable people can disagree (and often do) about what constitutes “humane” treatment of animals. But the suggestion that Michael Vick should ever again—under any circumstances—be trusted to care for a dog? That’s beyond the pale, and utterly indefensible.
We’re left to wonder about all those farmers who engage in animal practices that the animal rights movement considers “cruel.” Will they get special dispensation too? Will Wayne Pacelle schedule time with reporters to advocate it? Somehow we doubt it.
If nothing else comes of this, Pacelle’s moral authority to criticize so-called “animal abusers” on farms and ranches, in zoos and aquariums, in the culture of hunting and fishing, and in biomedical research labs has evaporated in a single spectacular ball of FAIL.
We have mixed feelings about that, but we’re betting Michael Vick’s dogs—most of which were successfully rehabilitated against HSUS’s wishes—know who their friends are. And neither Vick nor Wayne Pacelle makes the grade.

I agree with the fact that he should never be allowed around dogs again. As a person that rescues animals and volunteers at a shelter I have seen first hand what this abuse does to these animals. Please put a stop to him owning dogs.
Thank you
Well in a way this article is true but there are more factors that fall into the equation. If Wayne Pacelle bases his ideals that humans rights are no more important than animal rights then he’s assuming that Michael Vick has the right to rehabilitation. Although he is a murderer, is it not true murderers are given second chances once they’ve paid their debt to society? Is it not true we continuously take risks of letting humans that have taken the life of another being back into society to “start a new life”. So who’s to say Vick is automatically exempt from this even though it was the precious life of innocent animals he took? The American punishment system is a big gamble, has been for years, and will continue to be for many more surely. True, child molesters are stripped access to children. But where do these criminals end up after the debt is payed? BACK INTO SOCIETY for “reality-rehabilitation”...to test whether they’re ready for society. So is it really so far-fetched that Wayne Pacelle mentioned Michael Vick having another chance at pet ownership or is Wayne Pacelle kidding himself?
I hope that picture is of both of them in church, cause they both need it!
Now I’m all for second chances, but this guy has used up ALL his chances. He brutally murdered dogs NUMEROUS times for monetary gain—I am so glad I know not to donate to a cause that supports this behavior!
What can I say . . . . the outrage in my mind is screaming so loudly I can’t hear myself think.
I think this is HSUS’s (certainly Wayne Pacelle’s) Waterloo. He is now wearing the label HYPOCRITE like the “scarlet letter” of fame and fable. David, you, and all true animal lovers and caretakers, have been given the ultimate Christmas gift!
So a PROVEN, admitted, perpetrator of the worst level of animal cruelty - torture - is suddenly now ‘rehabilitated’ morally? Oh give me a break. It was all about the money from Day One.
So when HSUS proudly proclaims victory in Missouri against “‘puppy mill’ cruelty” with the passage of Prop B, we should all be sending them more money so that they prevent cruelty to dogs by shutting down more and more . . . wait for it . . . Breeders!?
Somehow anyone who is ‘cruel’ enough to actually breed dogs to provide these wonderful family pets that Michael Vick is now ‘good enough’ to own has committed an unforgivable sin, never to own dogs again, and most particularly SELL the puppies? In the face of this debacle?
This piece is eloquent and compelling and belongs in every media outlet available. Thank you!
M. Vick should be barred from owning any living creature. As a mature adult he failed to see and seemingly still fails to see any wrong in his actions and abuse of his dogs. He only regrets getting caught. His little speeches are only empty statements of propaganda B.S., no doubt written by someone with interest in his career, he’s not fooling anyone. No pet ownership for Vick ,in my opinion he lost his right for ownership when he caused the abuse, torture and death of the ‘pets” he did have.
I would like to say that I think Mike Vick has come a long way and is great for the Eagles .
However when we do things to hurt animals or people we must pay. Sadly his actions have affected not just him but his children and family.
I know first hand as many of us do that when you have a criminal in the family it hurts and touches every family member. Not to mention what it has done to his own life.
My note to Mike is to look into his childrens eyes and tell them he is sorry. Also when he looks into a puppies eyes to say he is sorry.
HSUS should change their motto to:
HSUS - We put the Hyp in Hypocrisy
So, being lucky enough to play football again was not enough? Is his head that big that he thinks he can do whatever he wants??! WOW.
I’d really like to know what Wayne Pacelle’s agenda is here, and where he’s going with this idiocy.
Wayne believes in Michael Vick because Wayne has invested money in Michael Vick - and because he NEEDS Michael Vick to be credible. That’s it.
Another comment (from Kenya) mentioned animal rights being like human rights in Wayne’s mind - and that animals should be treated just like humans. Well, let’s run with that.
Wayne didn’t believe the dogs were worthy of being rehabilitated and he wanted them euthanized. Why is he not advocating the same, for Vick?
Funny how money (as we’ve seen repeatedly with Pacelle) will change your public stance on an issue.
As long as we have a system that replaces children with abusive, neglectful parents after successful court ordered rehab, the question of Mike Vick having a second chance with animals should not be a problem and should be allowed. Besides, (and as cruel as it was), the dogs he killed where being culled for not performing well in the pit, I don’t think owning a poodle or other common domestic dog will give him the same opportunity… It’s not like he was taking ordinary house animals and killing them for fun.
I was floored when I heard of Mr. Vick’s comments, then appalled when I heard the recording. Now, I see this and can not fathom Mr. Pacelle’s “reasoning”. Maybe he is off his meds? I don’t belief Mr. Vick should ever be responsible for the welfare of any animal no matter how it may affect his daughters. He should have known he was wrong in the first and now he thinks having a dog would be good for his daughters? If he had ever thought it through in the beginning, he should have realized that dog-fighting (and killing) was a bad example for his daughters. Has Mr. Vick done any hands-on work with animals since his release from prison, NO! His image representative contacted Best Friends for a “glad-handing” image repairing stunt which was dismissed immediately, he was offered the chance to work with animals, supervised of course, without any reporters present and the offer was rejected.
Seriously???? Are you frickin kidding me?????
Bill,
If Vick was just cutting his financial losses by disposing of under-performing dogs, he could have shot them or given them an OD of barbiturates, or any number of other HUMANE methods of disposal. But he didn’t. He TORTUTED TO DEATH every single dog he killed. EVERY. SINGLE. DOG.
Michael Vick is a psychopath. The only reason he hasn’t started killing people is lack of opportunity. If the courts were to allow him to have another animal (ANY KIND OF ANIMAL), he’d torture it to death the same way he tortured his pits to death, because he enjoys causing pain and agony to helpless creatures over which he has complete control.
Actually Bill, Vick did throw house pets to his dogs as part of their “training.” He stood there and laughed as his dogs tore them up.
And on what planet are you allowed to “cull” non-preforming dogs by beating them to death on the ground, or hooking jumper cables to them and throwing them in a swimming pool - to laugh and joke as they die slowly and painfully. Only a psychopath tortures animals to death for “non-performance” in an illegal blood sport.
There is no excuse for Vick’s behavior. There is no excuse to give the Monster another dog and hope for the best.
I’m another one who just doesn’t get this. Given HSUS’ time tested methods, I get that HSUS raised a lot of money for the care of Vick’s dogs when the story broke given that 1) they weren’t caring for the dogs; and 2) that they advocated for their euthanization. What I can’t seem to find any rationale for, even a dishonest or misleading one, is this post-prison embrace of Vick.
If HSUS advocated animal ownership, maybe it would fit some “Anyone Can Be a Responsible Dog Owner” agenda, but we know that isn’t the case. Are they trying capture donations or support from football fans? Seems like a high risk tactic just to capture some Vick fans.
Wow… I really hope this is seen as the ridiculous hypocrisy this is in the wider media.
However, while Michael Vick is certainly a cruel man, but to call him “one of history’s cruelest animal abusers” is frankly, just silly. There’s been many far crueler in just the last decade, and many more crueler still who run dog fighting rings who haven’t been caught and probably never will be. By no means am I justifying for one second what he did, or trying to lesson how terrible it was, but over-blowing it by calling him that does take away credibility.
Bill Forren - the dogs he killed weren’t being “culled”, they were being punished for not doing well in the pit. They weren’t just shot in the head and put down quick, they were tortured FOR FUN. He has never once displayed any remorse for the pain and suffering he caused those dogs, he only displays remorse for being caught and the trouble it got him into. And you’re completely wrong - “It’s not like he was taking ordinary house animals and killing them for fun.” - all of the dogs rescued from his kennels ordinary house animals now. In fact several of them are service dogs now. There is no difference to hurting an animal for fun if it’s a house pet or a farm animal or a wild animal.
I don’t think he deserves to have a dog. He can’t even comply with the conditions of his parole that say he must stay away from former associates in his heinous past and he is still seen at clubs with them. (Uh, not being around alcohol is usally a condition of parole also) If he was staying home with his kids I could see it. He is not in a stable situation. Maybe his kids could have a dog but not when he visits. He was involved in animal cruelty of the worst kind, deliberate, knowing the result was pain and death. I don’t think he should have a dog unless he is so crippled that he could not be a danger to one.
It seems many people here don’t consider that Mike Vick has inalienable rights and his dogs don’t.
Several people here advocate for the police raids which endanger human lives and could have resulted in killing Mike Vick over the way he treated his dogs. (his property)
Would you celebrate if Mike Vick and his cousin would have been killed during the raid to save his dogs?
This is an example of animal extremists and zealots influencing misguided and mis-informed people to support putting animals above human lives.
How many of you would you advocate for raids that may kill the cattle rancher over the way he (harvests)(kills) (Slaughters)(culls) use whichever word you want here his (property) cattle?
Michael Vick should be locked up in a tank full of water and have a great white shark come after him. Why should any mercy be shown to him after what he did to these poor dogs? Dogs are one of the most intelligent, helpful creatures out there and don’t deserve ANY mistreatment. Unfortunately thousands of dogs are out there that people don’t want or take care of and look at all the good they do to help people. He is a barbarian who does not deserve to be around anyone (whether it’s a dog, person, etc.). He will get his punishment one day!
This is truly a sad moment! The Humane Society will surely loose more in funding than Vick is paying them to support him. This whole Vick getting a dog crap makes me sick - we have to DO something!
B.L. if you can’t tell the difference between cattle humanely slaughtered because they were raised to be part of the food chain, and an asshat who bludgeons his dogs to death, or electrocutes them in a swimming pool because they behaved poorly in an illegal, immoral blood sport… I suggest you cut back on the Kool-aid.
Several good comments here, but what I’m wondering is if anyone here thinks animals are the private property of their owners? Reading between the lines I see many of the ladies and a couple of the gentlemen are very compassionate about animals but have little compassion and tolerance for their fellow human beings. Look, I think Michael Vick is a moron too, but the real enemy here is the cult like approach groups like the HSUS, PETA and several others are using to get total control of animal use across our country—and you folks don’t have a clue they are doing it.
Here it is in a nutshell: What Michael Vick done was wrong, but he was punished, served his time, and is now being used by Mr. Pacelle for propaganda purposes, and will be discarded like an old pair of socks soon as he is no longer useful. Am I missing something? Was part of Vicks sentence to never own a pet or animal again?
Let’s not compare Vick to some degenerate child molester. That has no bearing on the problem at hand. In REAL life animals are culled everyday, but the way Vick did it was so out of bounds. And the punishment he got was like a slap on the wrist, and I think the HSUS and Mr. Pacelle himself had a lot to do with that. Want to punish someone or something? Start with the problem, the HSUS and the shaded truths they use to bilk millions of dollars yearly from people who real want to help animals.
One last thing: Please learn the difference between animal use and animal abuse. Let’s teach that in our school systems instead of animal rights.
From Frank Losey, everyone should send in their letter! I did!
http://www.facebook.com/notes/votenoonpropb/frank-loseys-call-to-action/115176295218218
Are you kidding me? This guy is a disgrace to anybody who cares about animals. What a good set Pacelle and Vick are two egotistical asses. They both are all about themselves. You can be sure that MV will torture and kill the next innocent animal that gets near him. I am willing to bet there is more violence in his past that has been covered up. The only animals he should be allowed to be around are fellow animal abusers. Then they can kill each other at no loss to society.
I hope there is a special place in hell where animal abusers go, so they can receive the same kind of treatment they themselves have done to their animals. Michael Vick is beyond cruel. He should be in jail.
@MJones: You would have a good point if HSUS and Pacelle were corrupted and involved in scamming people but that will be revealed at a later date if it is indeed true. As you mentioned, there was nothing stated in his sentence about not having ownership of another dog after he paid his debt to society. So if Pacelle wants to use Vick for propaganda purposes for the benefit of HSUS what’s the problem? If anything he’s being smart about the situation. True, he dived into the deep waters without thought to the sensitivity of the American people and how they would view allowing such a thing as Vick owning another dog, let alone any pet, but why not take advantage of Vicks sentence. People are not thinking outside the box where the advantages are. All Vick really cares about is repairing his tarnished reputation, and he’ll do anything to accomplish that. If he wants to give up a load of money that wont even put a dent in his budget then who is Pacelle to NOT take advantage of such a tempting offer. Pacelle knows Vick wont be stupid enough to try harming another dog so whats the harm? Vick’s career, reputation, and most of all MONEY is on the line if he even thinks of getting involved with the harm of another dog. Vick took advantage of those dogs, so now he’s getting taken advantage of for the sake of his reputation. It’s only fitting… and besides, like I mentioned earlier, the American punishment system is a gamble. Many criminals, especially those with high profile get second chances to see how they will make an impact on society a second time around after their debts are paid. Maybe Vick will develop a bond with ONE dog? Who knows…
How DARE YOU even THINK of giving Vick ANY animal EVER!!! GOD gave us the creatures on earth and they should be RESPECTED!
I have NO respect for Vick. I do love the Philadelphia Eagles.
Well, now—if Vick can serve his time and then go back to owning a dog, why can’t Billy whatever his name was who “abused’ the cows in the HSUS film go back to work at the dairy?
I don’t see Wayne calling for that! It is ALL about the MONEY… Friends Don’t let Friends Donate to the HSUS. Take away the money, take out the organization.
I am now a FORMER donor to the HSUS! How’s about we have Michael Vick babysit for Pacelle’s children or grandchildren? The consensus amongst mental health workers is that abusers of animals don’t stop with animals, and their own children are in danger. Also, that they just aren’t fixable! No scrutiny on this awful man is going to be 24/7, enough suffering already!
Michael Vick has kids of his own, if he’s going to babysit children he should probably start with his own first. His baby-mama/fiancee has chosen to stick by him and doesn’t see him as a danger to their mutual offspring - I wouldn’t have stuck around or let him around the kids, but then again, I’m not her. I do feel bad for their children, because their father was a horrible and cruel f*&kup; that considered betting and watching dog fights entertaining - not to mention what he did when he was displeased with the poor creatures - they’ll likely have learned a dismissive attitude towards the mistreating of any animal, even if they don’t by some miracle, they still probably won’t ever be given a shot at having the joys that go with getting a dog as a family. (Unless their dad ends up leaving their mom and doesn’t try to keep up some sort of visitation.)
Maybe HumaneWayne was hoping to drum up a little more attention to all the ‘good’ that the HSUS organization does, and just so happened to have been smoking out of the same bong as Miley Cyrus before putting his plan in action/having his team of monkeys write and issue that statement.
@David: You have a point about assuming he wont mess up again if he’s given another chance. Who knows… maybe he really is that stupid if he’s willing to give up his football career just to fight dogs. I doubt that area of expertise would pay the bills. The law continued to let him play but he dragged the Eagles name, the NFL’s name, as well as his own name in the dirt A LOT with that offense so I doubt they’ll take the heat for him a second time around without extreme retribution. It’s true when they say money DOESN’T buy respect… money only buys participation; after the money is gone, people turn sideways on you. I hope Vick learns this lesson one day. Oh yeah… lets not get off track with the Lindsay Lohan case. She has a drug problem… and drugs influence your mind to do stupid things regardless of the consequences once its in your blood stream. (I feel sorry for her though. Hollywood made her grow up a little TOO fast.)
Wayne Pacelle must be missing a few marbles himself! I wouldn’t trust him with any pets either! He should lose his job just for making such a statement! Get rid of him in favor of someone who does care about animals.
FIRE WAYNE PACELLE!!
@ Kenya, maybe you should take a real look at the HSUS’s way of doing business, just one small example of their corruption is the way they manipulate our voter registration and election system. If you are really wanting to help homeless animal, DON’T donate to the HSUS donate to your local animal shelter, and thank the farmers across the country who are under fire from special interest groups # 1 being the HSUS. No offence meant but you need to really know who you are supporting. I guess the other thing that strikes me the wrong way is the fact HSUS tells half truths to gather donations that are used for political purpose instead of caring for animal as they suggest. Research what I’m saying you might wake up if the assimilation is temporary. Good luck MJones.
The kind of behavior is exactly why I stopped giving one cent to HSUS. They are not for the animals, they are in it for the money.Wake up sheeple and stop sending this group any money at all. by giving them money you are doing more than good.
Listen, i am a die hard Eagles fan but to bring Vick in after what he has done really angers me because in case everyone has forgotten the 2001 or 2002 incident when one of the football players was fired for throwing his dog out of the car on I-95 he was fired because Andy Reid said they will not tolerate players abusing animals, wives or kids. If this is the case then why bring a murderer to the Eagles team??? That is how i see it, not to mention if this is how it goes then Philadelphia needs to give to Pete Rose his Hall of Fame and whatever else that man was stripped of because all he did was make bets. I see it this way because blacks are screaming for the NAACP then i feel us whites need to start doing the same, Blacks and Hispanics are no better than anyone else. If you commit a felony then i don’t feel you deserve all the attention all because it’s about people who have money. Hell look at the owners wife all smug and she killed a person and kept on going no prison time NOTHING. If the Eagles keep going this way I WON’T WANT TO STAY A FAN BECAUSE YOU ALL SUGAR COAT THE RICH TOO MUCH!!!!
I intended to write you this bit of word to finally thank you so much over again regarding the spectacular secrets you’ve documented on this website. It was certainly wonderfully generous of people like you to offer unreservedly all most of us would’ve offered for sale as an ebook in order to make some cash for their own end, particularly now that you might have done it in the event you desired. The tips as well acted to be the easy way to fully grasp someone else have the same interest really like my personal own to know a great deal more in terms of this issue. I think there are a lot more pleasant moments ahead for folks who scan through your website.
As long as the judge has said Vick the dog killing psychopath can’t own a dog then Pacelle can kiss Vick’s ring or nether parts to get the money. Vick the dog killer can moan how cruelly he has been treated as well. Let them keep ripping that scab off! The judge said he can’t own a dog!
Doesn’t the fact that the Phil Eagles PAID HSUS $50,000 for Vick’s advertisements on HSUS’ behalf make the case clearer than anything else could that HSUS AND WAYNE PACELLE ARE ANIMAL “RIGHTESTS” SIMPLY FOR THE MONEY??? Seriously, what more can anyone need to know about their “morality”.
If he is allowed a dog he should only be allowed 1, fixed have a chip and be check on always It may seem like its invading privacy but he brought this on himself he has no one to blame but himself.
Michael Vick is a murderer. He killed the dogs that would not fight and helped to spread the reputation that all pit bulls are evil ( Ban BSL!!) If Vick is allowed to have a dog, really, what do we think his is going to get, a poodle? Please no dog should ever have to be subjected to him again. Want me to believe hes sorry? Go do work with a pit bull charity and don’t advertise it. He’s just trying to make himself look better. Thank you for bringing this story to all of us concerned
long after this posting i suspect mr pacelle got a good season ticket from vick
Excuse me - but this is laughable. Wayne Pacelle doesn’t believe in pets. It’s totally consistent that he would find Michael Vick to be a good pet owner.
“We have no problem with the extinction of domestic animals. They are creations of human selective breeding.” Wayne Pacelle, Humane Society of the United States, Animal People, May, 1993.
“I don’t have a hands-on fondness for animals…To this day I don’t feel bonded to any non-human animal. I like them and I pet them and I’m kind to them, but there’s no special bond between me and other animals.” Wayne Pacelle, Humane Society of the United States, quoted in Bloodties: Nature, Culture and the Hunt by Ted Kerasote, 1993, p. 251.
Hummm… The EAGLES have paid HSUS $50,000 to rehab their star qb’s image??? The EAGLES? How much has the dog killer HIMSELF donated to, say BEST FRIENDS. That would be the organization who asked the judge to please not euthanize appx 20 of the dogs, but instead allow them to take these precious vivtims to their facility in Utah where, by agreement, the dogs would live out the rest of their lives in comfort surrounded by love and cared for by trained, compassionate staff. Anyone who owns a dol knows the expense. Again, how much has Vick HIMSELF donated out of HIS millions?? Right. Because he is a disturbed person who needs serious help!
It does not surprise me that HSUS has taken this stand. When I asked for their assistance with removing the ESPN ad that depicted an animal control officer advising a citizen to shoot a small animal in the face I got a response that told me all the good works that Michael Vick is doing.
Their leadership in the animal rescue portion of FEMA has caused many of our best rescue organizations to be banned from assisting during natural disasters.
They are a political lobbying organization more concerned with their money and arrogance than the welfare of animals.
MV is a sick individual. In my opinion, he’s the type of person who could never be rehabilitated. I can’t exrpress how angry this makes me feel. No amounts of “Sorry” will ever make this right, nor will money. And as for WP to say that that dumb idiot would make a good pet owner, makes me think he’s just as dumb and big of a idiot as MV.
What a hypocrite! It seems that Mr. Pacelle will do anything for a soundbyte. Mr. Vick should never, ever be allowed to own a dog or other pet. His prior history with dogs was brutal, viscious and inhumane. Mr. Pacelle is incorrigible and I find it incomprehensible that he supports Mr. Vick in any way.
I totally agree with every statement condemning M. Vicks! The HS is completely bonkers. I don’t even watch the Eagles play anymore. It makes my skin crawl to think this vicks is allowed to play. He should have been strung up and made an example to people who even think of doing what he did.
Ask Best Friends in Utah if they think Vicks deserves to ever have a dog again. This makes me sick. Those poor dogs were beat up so badly and treated so cruelly that it took months to even let someone pet them, so they could be placed in loving homes again. Vick’s should never have a dog again. He will never change just as Jeffrey Dommer or Ted Bundy would stop murdering people. Its all to get money. Why get money for the humane society from a place to clear his name. This money does no good when the culprits are still doing what they did all along. Rehabilitate animals and find homes for them yet let a dog killer keep having more dogs to abuse just to make him look angelic again. GET REAL PACELLE>
I get so angry every time I read about Michael Vick and what that evil, perverse individual has done to animals that I shake and can not think straight. He makes me so SICK! He is an example of the absolute worst of humanity, and anyone who sympathizes with him and/or forgives him for what he did is, in my opinion, equally evil and perverse. There is NO WAY I could ever forgive him, especially since he clearly shows no remorse, and he should absolutely never own ANY kind of animal ever again. The only consolation I can get is knowing that when he dies, which can not be soon enough for me, he will NOT be going anywhere near Heaven, whereas all the animals he so brutally killed ARE in Heaven and will be laughing at him. I know I will be too. And the ASPCA and HSUS will never see a dime from me.
Wayne P just wants more money so he kisses Vick’s A*s..I personally don’t think Vick should have been able to play pro ball again and I am entitled to my opinion…Michael Vick could give a crap about a dog and too bad I had to find out about The Humane Society of the US the hard way I don’t know why I was so suprised. Wayne Pacelle is just like any other coporate giant they talk like politicians but they always watch the $ sign..It’s a shame so many good people out there that could be running the HSUS the right way. I bless all my fellow animal lovers out there and all of the Lord’s creatures may they run in green pastures forever!!
I totally agree with Ruth and her post @ 7:15PM. Best Friends in Utah did a heck of a job with those dogs. I saw Georgia on a television show and I was so proud of her even though she can’t be adopted out she has bonded with one of the staff at Best Friends and they have become best friends. Bless all of the staff for all of the had work and dedication they put into the abused Vick dogs they are wonderful people!!!!
Neither of them should have any animals. HW needs to kick outHSUS CEO & have him replaced with someone who values animals!
I have given HSUS so much money! Already quit PETA for their Vick comments. Well, here comes the money
Magnificent Mutts Rescue and West Suburban Humane Society. Let’s go with the little places that really do a much better job than the big ones.
I will never ever forgive or forget about the dogs that were tortured and killed for entertainment. I would never watch or promote anything that Michael Vick was in and he certainly does not desrve any second chances for what he has done to animals. The Eagles football team should be ashamed of theirselves for paying him anything. Its like paying a rapist for raping.
This is exactly what is wrong with society now days , everything is about money and the money should be going to the animals not to Vick.
I say the more people that start boycotting these teams for supporting the likes of Vick the more we will start making a difference. When you start hitting their pocket book thats when they will get your message. There are many animal lovers and we can make a huge difference when we
choose not to stand for this behavior any longer.
I am not a apologist for Wayne Pacelle and agree that Michael Vick should still be in jail and never allowed to possess another pet. However, I also I do strongly believe in Animal Rights AND Human Rights.
Wayne Pacalle needs to be removed from HSUS altogether. I feel horrible stopping my donations to the HSUS and unsubscribing to HSUS e-mails. I just can’t do it anymore knowing he jumped in bed with a popular ball player who electrocuted, & lead a dog fighting ring for profit. It is funny that he is just that, just some dude who can play football.
My donations will only go to Best Friends Society in UT and SPCA now.
I also do strongly believe in Animal Rights AND Human Rights. Therefore consider my human right to think that Wayne found something shiny in Vick and got distracted. Either that or he is truly not concerned about the welfare of the victim’s Michael Vick is responsible for.
Why can’t Vick donate money to take care of those 22 dogs of his in Utah? Oh, sorry, he wants a new dog. Besides, I pay for that. Vick wants another dog, but what about the non-profit Orgs and individuals like me provide their food and shelter? Can’t he pay their way?
I was hoping Wayne would take advantage of Vick’s alleged offer to head up the anti-pit fighting campaign. Instead, Vick shows his face sitting next to Wayne acting like he is against what he did.
If Vick wants to make a difference, he should pay for the rehabilitation of the dog’s he abused.
this is wrong in soooo many ways
Devil’s advocate and protege.
BWAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Michael Vick a “fit” animal owner? Absolutely laughable. Never in a million years. A person’s true nature is shown in the way they treat other creatures. ALL creatures. We have seen the reality of Michael Vick, and it’s heinous, ignorant, cruel, greedy and utterly evil. Vick needs to be put down…and by that, and I don’t mean insulted.
A personal note to Mr. Pacelle: if you’re buying into Vick’s line of bulls***, you’re as dumb as he is. The rest of us can see the truth. And we don’t like it.
Shame…shame…shame on this man! I just canceled my monthly donations with this organization! Michael Vick is not now nor ever will be ready to own a pet! That would bed like saying Sandusky is ready to be around small boys!! This makes me sick! Vick should and will burfn in hell!! Let’s see how long it will take Wayne Pacelle’s PR crew make him to some serious damage control!!!
Hmmm. If he hadn’t been caught, he’d still be doing it. Out of his own mouth, yet Mr. Pacelle says he’d make a good “pet owner”. Oh, the shelters in Missouri are filled with “puppy mill” puppies now too…so if you are in/near Missouri and can possibly do it, now is a great time to rescue one.
You know that there are much more people who do worse. I’m not saying that it shouldn’t be punished. I’m saying that you should think more about the other cruel and vile people- not just Michael Vick.

Michael Vick will never be a good owner of an animal. He not only made these dogs fight, he enjoyed killing them in very inhumane ways when they were no longer able to fight. He should be in jail. There is something wrong with him and I would never watch anything he is involved in. No pets for him. He shouldn’t even be trusted with people. He needs extensive counseling and I am one of many who don’t understand how he got off so easy.
