Scott Beckstead

 Scott Beckstead is HSUS's Oregon Senior State Director, overseeing all legislative and lobbying activities in that state. (Click here for HSUS's Oregon-specific Facebook page.) He is also a past president of Oregon's Central Coast Humane Society.

In 1999, Beckstead co-authored The Animal Law Casebook. He is also a regular columnist for The Oregonian, writing primarily on animal-rights issues. His grandfather was a mink farmer in Idaho, and Beckstead has written about his experience helping out during pelting season. In 2001, he wrote, "Grandpa was kind, gentle and decent to his children and grandchildren. I believe most people who raise animals for their fur are honest, hardworking people." 

Beckstead holds a law degree and practices in the areas of animal rights, civil rights, divorce, and family law.
