HSUS Faces New Call for Investigation
Grassroots activists have targeted the Humane Society of the United States (a deceptive PETA ally not to be confused with your local humane society) for over a year with calls for an IRS investigation of the animal rights group. They believe HSUS may have violated lobbying restrictions placed on charities. And in April, they received a boost as six Members of Congress wrote the IRS Inspector General demanding an investigation.
As we report at our HumaneWatch.org project, HSUS is facing a new complaint. The instigator is Frank Losey, a man who has led the aforementioned campaign:
Losey believes that HSUS may have violated the Lobbying Disclosure Act of 1995 (since amended) by not registering some of its entities or employees in accordance with the law’s provisions. You can read an online copy of the letter Losey sent to the U.S. Attorney’s office in D.C. He lays the case out in heavily detailed fashion, including voluminous appendices totaling more than 150 pages.
