Nathaniel Deday LaRene
During 1992, the Organized Crime Strike Force of the United States Attorney's Office in Detroit, Michigan, began an investigation of LaRene and his client, Vito Giacalone, on allegations of extortion and money laundering. He was later convicted.
A longtime friend of disgraced HSUS vice president of investigations David Wills, who was fired for embezzling thousands of dollars from HSUS coffers, LaRene joined HSUS to serve out his community service sentence after spending a year in federal prison.
